MP Job Description and Questions Session

25 February @ 19:30 - 21:30 AEDT

Free

We have Job Descriptions – why not MPs?

Now we are taking the next step to think about what a job description for MPs might look like, building on the 2024 ACT Election activity around the skills and attributes we want our MLAs to demonstrate.

In essence, MPs have a very important job – governing the country. We all have a vague idea what they do but do we really understand their job? Do they understand their job? We vote for them. How can we know they are up to the job if we aren’t clear what we expect them to do? How do we know they are doing their job well if there are no criteria to assess them against?

We looked to see if job descriptions exist in other countries and found none specifically do. However, there is a broad understanding of what the components of a job description would contain. We have drawn these elements together and drafted a job description for our MPs.

On Tuesday February 25th, on zoom, we will be holding a session to look at and finalise the job description, and then a session to craft questions (two or three) to pose to candidates at candidate forums in March.

To get the most out of the discussion please read the background information and have a look at the Job Description here.

Finally, in March, though we await the calling of the election, we will again host a series of candidate forums where we can ask candidates how they fit the job description (and possibly some policy stuff).
