This federal election we are keen for people to continue to think about who they preference when casting their vote.
This time around, we add in the idea that MPs should have a job description to make it open and transparent to voters what the job we want them to do actually is. While job description is not perhaps the best term, it does describe what it is and it is an understood term.
I unpack this in more detail at this link.
There I answer the questions:
- So what’s this about? (1.5 minute read).
- Why have a job description? (2 minute read).
- What would be in a job description? (5 minute read).
- What else do we need to think about? (2.5 minute read).
Finally you will find a copy of a draft Job Description.
In a few weeks we will be holding a session to look at and finalise the job description, and then a session to craft questions (two or three) to pose to candidates at candidate forums in March.
Please help nurture democracy and share widely.
